Ruling on Ambulance Chasers
Phil states, "The Court’s decision affirms the Council’s position that the
predatory practice of exploiting consumers when they are most vulnerable -
after an accident - is and continues to be unacceptable in the District of

Phil Fights for Kids' Safety at Public Schools
Citing children's security concerns, Phil both pushes for a
police presence for schools in need, as well as introduces legislation to
facilitate safe zones around school properties.

2.23.10 - Mendelson Marks-up Anti-Graffiti
Legislation
On Tuesday, February 23, 2010,
the Committee approved Bill 18-69, the “Anti-Graffiti Act of 2010”. Bill 18-69
establishes a new process for graffiti abatement by property owners and the
Mayor.

2.12.10 - Mendelson Hears Testimony on PCP Bill
Councilmember Mendelson recently held a hearing on
legislation that would increase penalties for PCP-related offenses. View

2.4.10 - Mendelson Holds Hearing on Residential
Tranquility Act
On February 4th, Councilmember Mendelson held a hearing on
Bill 18-63, the Residential Tranquility Act of 2009. The bill was Intended
to address residents' concerns about targeted and aggressive
picketing in residential areas. The Committee also convened a working
group on the issue that resulted in a new
draft committee print.

2.2.10 - Attorney General Clarification Legislation Approved by the
Council
Bill 18-65, the Attorney General Clarification and Elected Term Amendment
Act of 2009, recently approved by the Council, makes clear in the law that the
responsibility of the Attorney General is to serve the citizens of the District,
and would also allow, upon enactment by Congress, for the direct election of the

1.21.10 - Mendelson Holds Hearing on Pair
of Crime Bills
Councilmember Mendelson held a hearing on Thursday, January 21st, on two crime bills: Bill 18-526, the Public Transportation Criminal
Penalties Act of 2009, and Bill 18-555, the School Safe Passage Emergency Zone
Act of 2009.
