B19-0486 the “Unemployment Anti-Discrimination Amendment Act of 2011”

B19-0516 the “Advisory Neighborhood Commission Residential Facility Notification Amendment Act of 2011”
Councilmember Marion Barry, Chairperson of the Committee on Aging and Community Affairs, announces a public hearing on B19-0486 and B19-0516. The public hearing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2011 in Hearing Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building.
The stated purpose of B19-0486 is to amend the Human Rights Act of 1977 to prohibit discrimination in employment on the basis of an individual’s status or history of unemployment. The purpose of B19-0516 is to amend the Advisory Neighborhood Councils Act of 1975 to require notice to affected Advisory Neighborhood Commissions of the potential location of community-based residential facilities.
Those who wish to testify should register online or contact Mr. Garret King, Committee Director, at (202) 741-0948, or by fax at (202) 741-0911, or via e-mail at gking@dccouncil.us, and provide their name, address, telephone number, organizational affiliation and title (if any) by close of business Friday, December 16, 2011. Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 10 copies of written testimony. Witnesses should limit their testimony to three minutes; less time will be allowed if there are a large number of witnesses.
If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. Copies of written statements should be submitted either to Mr. King, or to Ms. Nyasha Smith, Secretary to the Council, Room 5 of the Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20004. The record will close ten days following the conclusion of the roundtable.
