7.6.10 - Mendelson
Questions Settlement in Contracting Controversy
Mendelson, along with colleagues Cheh and Thomas, sent a letter to
Attorney General Nickles questioning his decision to settle a claim by a
vendor in an ongoing contracting controversy. The settlement comes
prior to the conclusion of an investigation of the matter by a Special
Committee of the Council. To view the full letter, click

7.2.10 - Mendelson
Presses Executive on Drug Treatment Program
On Friday, July 2, 2010, Mendelson wrote the Mayor to urge expansion
of a federally certified drug treatment program for offenders. This
program leverages available federal resources in order to prevent offenders
on parole or supervised release from re-offending due to a drug addiction.

6.29.10 - Council Urges Congress Not to Inhibit District's Regulation of
Firearms
Mendelson introduced, along with each of his Council colleagues, a
resolution declaring the sense of the Council that the US Congress must not
adopt legislation restricting the District's ability to legislate the
regulation of firearms. PR 18-1012 was unanimously approved at the
June 29th legislative meeting.

- Council Votes on Juvenile Confidentiality Bill
On Tuesday, July 13, 2010, the Council approved on first reading
Bill 18-344, the
“Expanding Access to Juvenile Records Amendment Act of 2010.” Bill 18-344,
marked-up by Mendelson's Committee on June 29th,
amends the law regarding juvenile justice confidentiality to allow for the
disclosure of certain information.

6.1.10 - Council Approves Mendelson's
Bill on Community Impact Statements
On Tuesday, June 1, 2010, the Council approved Bill
18-549, the “Community Impact Statement Act of 2010.” This legislation was
marked-up by Councilmember Mendelson on April 13th. Bill 18-549 provides
community members with the ability to submit community impact statements to the
court for consideration in sentencing for felony offenders. For more

5.13.10 - Mendelson
Marks-up Committee FY 2011 Budget Report and Recommendations
On Thursday, May 13, 2010, the Committee approved its
Report and Recommendations of the Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary
for the Fiscal Year 2011 Budget and corresponding Budget Support Act. The
report includes the Committee’s recommendations for the 20 agencies under its
purview, and includes legislative recommendations related to the District’s

5.4.10 - Council Approves
Mendelson's Bill on Drug Related Offenses
On Tuesday,
May 5, 2010, the Council approved Bill 18-556, the "Liquid PCP Possession
Amendment Act of 2010." This legislation was marked-up by Councilmember
Mendelson on April 13th. Bill 18-556 increases the penalty for PCP possession
